B A C K G R O U N D

Darien was born on Byalan Island to a very dedicated pair of Hel followers. There he was raised, along with his sister, until he was old enough to attend school himself. It was an easy life, for the most part, being a part of the oldest families in their Church. His sister was already off at mage school, so he was free of her bothering (except for holidays, and when she pushed him down a well when they were small). He made fast friends with one Blaise Zaibel, and soon the two were inseperable.

At ten years old he went off to Al de Baran to study the art of alchemy. After ten long years of hard learning, he decided there wasn't much left to learn and decided to move on. Or more like, he'd discovered how to concoct his own painkillers for the troubles his leg gives him (Lady Sister left him with a limp from his trip down the well, don't we love her) and his attention span waned severely.

For a few years he bounced around Schsdl;ajflk getting in and out fo trouble with the law, until his parents put their foot down and brought him back to Byalan. They kept him isolated and got him clean, introduced him to Rookwood, a wisened older worshipper with a sadistic streak who tutored both him and Blaise in ways to be more effective with their crafts.

Finally, when they decided he was fit again for human interaction they sent him to apply for a merchant permit with the intention of trafficking the branches his sister and mother made.

Now fully able to sell his potions and branches, he travels along with Blaise, still getting in and out of trouble (sometimes). Aside from passing off branches he makes money off of his creations, addictive little pieces of painkillers and downer serums the slave trade is fond of for incapacitating girls. He is not afraid to break into your house and steal it for a good while when he's poor.

And of course, he's still on drugs. Just LOOK AT THAT EXPRESSION.

P E R S O N A L I T Y

Most of the time Darien can't be bothered to care about what you find important. Most find him sarcastic and apathetic, but he's pleasant enough when it comes to his Church and family. He does love his family dearly, but finds that their ideas of clinging to some sort of nobility annoying.. but he can't deny he's a fan of nepotism. Darien is prone to thinking quite highly of himself because of it, something of a narcissist.

What was once a razor sharp mind and wit has now been clouded by his own narcotics. He goes through periods of fierce addiction and horrible withdrawal. Everytime his parents dry him out he's convinced he's closer to dying.

Darien goes through periods of manic perfectionism and lows. For weeks he can carry on, scribbling for pages upon pages of new ideas and brewing from morning til night. When on an even keel he can almost be seen as charming, if the rate he goes through women on a good week is anything to go by.

And then he crashes.

During the bad times.. well, one would be lucky to get him to ooze in any direction besides that of a comfy bed and only hope to slide some soup down his throat.
